*Terra Madre Day 2011 at Slow Food LCB was spent in the Refugee Family Services Garden assisting the refugee women of Burundi, Africa harvest their winter crops for sale at the market.

We got our hands dirty and enjoyed a hot bowl of Cajun Gumbo z'Herbs with fellow members!
*In answer to Michelle Obama's call for action, The Slow Food Club has adopted Livsey Elementary School in Tucker, planning six school visits during 2011 to join the fight against childhood obesity in our community. Join us and help make a difference!

Chefs across the country are answering Mrs. Obama's request to get involved with their local schools as part of the Chefs Move to Schools initiative, run through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The First Lady is calling on chefs to get involved by adopting a school and working with teachers, parents, school nutritionists and administrators to help educate kids about food and nutrition.
*To show appreciation for our local vineyards, SLow Food Club at LCB Atlanta organized a tour, wine tasting and brunch at Persimmon Creek Vineyards in beautiful North Georgia. Members attended for a reduced rate, with the club covering half of the costs.



*Here at Slow Food LCB Atlanta, we proudly support our local Farmers Markets and Restaurants. Last year, the Slow Food Club organized a tour or the Morningside Farmers Market, then enjoyed brunch at Rosedbud Restaurant, right next door. Rosebud chef Ron Eyester specializes in locally grown, seasonal foods with a laid-back, Southern flair. Members dined at a reduced rate, with the Club picking up half of the tab.

* With generous sponsorship from Whole Foods Market at Briarcliff in Atlanta, The Slow Foods Club at LCB Atlanta has been able to hold numerous fundraisers that allow us to help expose the next generation of chefs to local, sustainable, and organic foods. These fundraisers have featured the sale of Fair Trade Coffee from Cafe Campasino, BBQ Chicken and all the Fixin's at the Summer Harvest Market, a Student's Savory Sandwich Competition featuring WFM 365 Products, and also a Holiday Pie Sale to help raise money for the Georgia Flooded Farmer's Relief Fund.




*The Slow Food CLub at LCB Atlanta was greatly honored to host the Slow Food USA Southeast Regional Conference "Best of South" Brunch in February, 2010. The guest of Honor was none other than Slow Food founder and sustainability pioneer Carlo Petrini.
With donations of food and drink from more than a dozen local producers, LCB Students served more than 100 guests a delicious brunch featuring farm fresh eggs, local honey, artisinal breads, organic yogurts, natural pork sausage, LCB bacon, Kentucky bourbon and local fruits & vegetables.
